Saw an interesting movie last night called The Color of Paradise. It's an Iranian film directed by Majid Majidi about a blind boy whose father is ashamed of him. Very touching, though not nearly as good as Majidi's earlier work Children of Heaven. What I love about both films is their ability to humanize the plight of every day Iranians, using a child's perspective. This is important stuff for people not familiar with Iranian culture or society to see. As the hawkish rhetoric escalates, the conventional media and much of the political class in the US forgets about the ordinary people who live in Iran. And they are the ones who ultimately suffer.

Who is it for anyway? I still don't really have definitive answers yet to those questions, but when I came across this Vox site that is advertised as a way to have a blog that allows you to keep some of the content private and after some frustrations with the privacy features of YouTube, I decided to give it go. Also, I'm about to embark on my MLIS at SJSU, and I thought this might be an opportunity for me to keep a record of that experience above and beyond the e-paper trail of course work. So here goes....
